Paris Fashion Week: Chanel A/W12

The setting for a Chanel show is always spectacular (remember S/S10's giant barn dance with Lily Allen popping out of the floor?) and for Autumn/Winter 2012 Karl Lagerfeld didn't disappoint, creating a futuristic crystal cave in the Grand Palais for his models to walk through.

The sharp edges of the crystal set were echoed in the diamond patterns on skirts and coats, while shiny, metallic fabrics in jewel shades contrasted with soft, homepsun sweaters and woven scarves to evoke a futuristic world traveller look.

There was plenty of texture and decoration in the richly embellished fabrics and interesting new sillouhettes were achieved by bold use of layering (are you ready for the skirt-over-trousers look again? It's coming...)

The models' bare faces and slicked-back hair allowed their bejewelled eyebrows to take the spotlight (we almost didn't recognise the gorgeous Miranda Kerr) and ours eyes were also drawn to the beautiful asymmetric Mary Jane shoes with clear perspex heels. It was a colourful, confident collection that picked up on emerging themes (purple, layering) and gave them that distinctive Chanel spin.
