Helen Fielding fans - you need to see this. Ahead of the release of Bridget Jones’s Baby: The Diaries in October, Fielding and her team have teased a first look at the book cover.

It’s a small joy, we know, but if you’re finding the wait for the fourth Bridget Jones book an agonising one, eat up this morsel.

Following the feel and aesthetic of Fielding’s earlier three Bridget novels, the jacket sees a heavily pregnant Bridge silhouetted against a baby blue background.

Taking full advantage of our eagerness for more Bridget, the cover was debuted on Facebook last night (24 August) after fans joined in with a three-day countdown.

But as successful as the big reveal has been (likes and shares are still rolling in), the book cover isn’t the only thing to have been revealed on the #BridgetBabyBook Facebook page.

It turns out that actually, a lot of people are still confused as to the timeline of what is now a four-book series.

Naturally, Fielding’s decision to kill off Mark Darcy in her third instalment, Mad About The Boy, has left many wondering how he can now be potentially fathering Bridget’s first child (in both the new book and film, she’s initially not sure who the baby daddy is).

So, here’s our best explanation of the situation, given that there’s little in the way of ‘official’ information.

Due to be released on 11 October following the Bridget Jones’s Baby film starring Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey, the book is thought to be a prequel to third book Mad About The Boy.

While in Mad About The Boy we meet Bridget as a 51-year-old widow and mother of two, Bridget Jones’s Baby: The Diaries will backtrack nearly 20 years to pick up just after second book The Edge Of Reason.

According to the synopsis: “As she careers towards baby-deadline, tortured by Smug Mothers miming her ticking biological clock, a series of classic Bridget Jones moments finally leads her into pregnancy – but just not quite as intended.

“It’s a pregnancy full of cheesy potatoes, outlandish advice from Drunken Singletons and Smug Mothers, chaos at scans and childbirth classes, high jinks and romance, joy and despair – but all of it dominated by the terribly awkward question – ‘Who’s the Father?’”

Confused or not, we can’t wait.
