Exclusive: BRIT Awards nail art tutorial

The BRIT Awards take place next Wednesday (20 February), and Jenny Longworth, celebrity manicurist and Revlon UK Nail Ambassador will be backstage making sure all the performers (which include Emeli Sande and Taylor Swift) have picture perfect nails on the night.

To mark Revlon and Jenny’s sponsored_longform with the BRITS, the star nail artist has created five bespoke designs to celebrate popular genres in music, from pop to soul and rock. The designs are as cool and creative as you’d expect from someone who has decorated the talons of celebrity nail art fanatics Katy Perry, Rihanna and Rita Ora, and we’ve got an exclusive how-to for the 'Urban' genre nail design - a camouflage effect using deep earthy shades on a contrasting white background.

  • The Urban Nail

    Jenny says:

“I took it back to the streets by creating a fierce, ghetto-chic camouflage design for this genre. Using Revlon Nail Enamel in ‘White on White’ for the base was the perfect contrast against the bright earthy shades that made up the camouflage design. This kept the look ultra modern, oozing strength and sexiness.”

  • Step 1

Start by buffing your nails. This will give your nails a smooth and even surface to apply the nail enamel. Paint on one coat of base coat. I love Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat. It dries so quickly and is great to prevent staining. Paint on two coats of Revlon Nail Enamel in ‘White on White’.

  • Step 2

Once this is touch dry, take a nail art striper brush and create small camouflage-esque patches in Revlon ColorStay Nail Enamel in ‘Bonsai’. Keep the patches random in shape for a more organic and realistic effect. Repeat this process using Revlon ColorStay Nail Enamel in ‘Stiletto’, and Revlon Brilliant Strength Nail Enamel in ‘Captivate.’

  • Step 3

'Float' the brush of Revlons Top Coat over the finished nail, applying minimal pressure so as not to smudge the design.

  • Step 4

Wait two minutes until your nails are touch dry, then sweep Revlon Liquid Quick Dry over the nail for a super fast drying time.
