Stylist unpacks 2016’s smartest beauty launch yet – The Estée Edit, an 82-piece range of innovative, ground-breaking products from the beauty powerhouse Estée Lauder

It’s not often that a cosmetics brand can turn a group of beauty editors into a gaggle of giddy schoolchildren. But that’s exactly what happened when we flew over to New York to get the first look at The Estée Edit. Eyes widened, jaws dropped – it was as if we’d never seen make-up before. But to be fair, we’d never seen make-up quite like this

From topcoats that change the colour of your lipstick to powder that minimises pores, this collection is full of intelligent formulas and genius inventions that will answer the beauty demands of a new generation. Click through the gallery for our favourite pieces.

The Estee Edit full collection will be available exclusively at Selfridges, prices start at £15

  • The 2-in-1 lash builder

The Edgiest Up and Out Double Mascara, £17
Because one mascara is never enough, the fatter brush of this double-ended wand will load lashes with formula for volume while the smaller brush lengthens.

  • The pore eraser

    Pore Vanishing Stick, £21
Forget Photoshop, simply swipe this oil-absorbing, imperfection-blurring stick over the cheeks, forehead and across the chin and watch your pores disappear, without leaving an unsightly powdery film behind.

  • The face prepper

Pink Peony Overnight Water Pack, £34
This soothing cream delivers an intense shot of pink peony to calm skin overnight for the ultimate dewy skin come morning. Keep in the fridge to refresh skin after a day in the sun.

  • The lipstick chameleon

Lip Flip Shade Transformer, £15 each
They may look alternative, but these ingenious lip shades will triple your lipstick collection. Apply the yellow over your favourite lip colour to brighten, and the black to deepen.

  • The skin filter

    Flash Photo Powder, £24
Innovative tiny blue pigments in this translucent powder reflect light, making skin look brighter, especially under the flash of a camera. Genius.
