It's easy to get stuck in a rut, particularly when it comes to your beauty regimen.
Despite the fact that we've gone through over 20 pairs of jeans in the past 10 years, in different forms and styles, when deciding on a perfume, we'll stick to what we've worn since we were 20 (Chanel Chance, by the way).
While we're staunch believers in sticking to what works for you, at times it's a good idea to think outside your make-up bag.
From delicious-smelling citrus scents created in an old convent located in Provence to moisturisers made from left over sheep's wool, we've rounded-up some of our favourite tried and tested beauty products, which we think you need know about.
You never know, they could just become your new favourites.
As our sister publication Emerald Street has pointed out before Lanolin (the main ingredient in Lanolips) is a by-product of sheep's wool. They've also pointed out that this is a great product, ideal for those in need of hand moisture. We like the anti-bacterial hand cream as it does two jobs in one!
Hailing from Sweden, this cult brand has won numerous awards from publications all over the world. Originally a salon set up in 1997 by hairdressers Sacha Mitic and Juan Rosenlind, their products were launched in 2003. While they've been around for some time, it's this protective hair perfume that we're especially obsessed with of late. Rejuvenates tired hair, protects it from styling and smells nice. You couldn't really ask for more.
OK, so you might have heard of This Works, but if you haven't you really need to know about these guys, especially if you have trouble sleeping. They make various different lotions and potions but perhaps our ultimate hero product has to be their This Works Sleep Plus pillow spray. A few squirts before you go to bed and you'll sleep more soundly. Seriously, this really does work.
There are times when you don't have the chance to book in your hair colouring or even to dye it at home. But then there's always root cover up from Colour Wow. This product does exactly what you want it too, and it's not greasy either, like good old 90s' hair mascaras. Powdery, without being drying, it's ideal for the time-pressed.
Windle & Moodie
There's a reason why hair salons produce such great hair products: because they work with hair everyday. Windle & Moodie, pegged as London's favourite hair salon, is no different. The invisible day and night cream, which you can leave overnight to create soft locks for the morning, has swiftly become one of our favourites.
Where has this concealer been all our lives?! Loved by bloggers and make-up artists alike, it really does do what it says on the tin. It's the Ronseal of concealers, if you will. Not only does it provide great coverage, you only need a little bit. While it's important to note that this is pretty thick, it covers dark circles and blemishes like no other concealer we've tried before.
Le Couvent des Minimes
Back in the 17th century the Minim brothers were monks who resided in a convent and created terraced gardens and cultivated the lands surrounding it to provide remedies for the community. These plants in the area are the same ones used by the Provence-based hotel and spa which goes by the same name as their products - Le Couvent de Minimes. This delicious-smelling fragrance is a light citrus scent with notes of grapefruit and neroli. We don't leave the house without a spritz of it.
As one of the Dr Hauscka hero products, the Rose Day Cream is a must for any beauty bag and anyone who suffers from dry skin, or have particularly sensitive skin too. It also smells amazing.
The only thing about Ole Henriksen products is that they smell so good, after we've applied them to our faces we want to lick it off again (bit too weird?). Anyway, face licking aside, we've fallen in love with their truth serum collagen booster, which acts like vitamin skin for your face. It help smooth out lines and gives you an all-round brighter complexion.
There's nothing we don't love about Aesop. From their smart, clean packaging, to the gorgeous smell of every product, this is ideal for both men and women. We especially love the geranium leaf body moisturiser, which is great for seasonal dryness.
